This "Flock of Ducks" motorized sculpture is by German artist Felix Scharstein. "Three spirals are interlocked and rotate synchronously," Scharstein writes. "The ducks at the ends of the spirals fly playfully in circles and around each other."The sculpture is made of aluminum and gold-plated brass. "Inspire" is a public sculpture by Wowhaus, a California-based art and design studio. Commissioned by the San Ramon Public Library, the stainless steel structure mimics a book, with the pages made of dichroic glass; this is glass that has multiple coatings on it, with each layer tuned to reflect some colors of light while letting others pass through. This vintage desk lamp is by VEB Zweckleuchtenbau, a state-owned East German lamp manufacturer of the 1970s. It's a pretty basic Communist-era design, with no mistaking where the switch is. You can adjust the lamp's tilt by moving the stalk in the little channel in the base.Which makes me think: If you took a vintage Ferrari shift gate, and made a lamp like this with a more Ferrari-esque shade, I bet you could sell it for an absurd amount of money.
